  • Is this modality or methodology trauma-informed?

The model is trauma- informed but is NOT a trauma treatment. The focus is on relational recovery and healing interpersonal trauma from childhood experiences. If there is a specific checklist of standard for trauma-informed therapy- RLT may or may not fit the description.

  • Does RLT include any subconscious reprogramming or neuroscience techniques such as NLP?

RLT is informed by neuroscience and Terry has collaborated with Dan Siegel in the past. We do not use any subconscious reprogramming techniques like NLP. RLT's approach is much more concious and intentional shifts in behavior to become more relational.

  • Does Terry do brain-spotting and incorporates other modalities?

Terry does not model or teach Brainspotting or other trauma focused modalities. He does refer, at times, to other treatment approaches like EMDR, behavioral treatment for anxiety, 12 step groups and medication consults.

  • How can RLT help military and veteran couples?

It would apply in the same way to most couples who are interested in valuing connection and intimacy more than hierarchical power within a relationship. Learning to discard the hierarchy ( and patriarchy) of the military when dealing with your partner / spouse could be transformational and RLT can make the case for why we believe this is true.

  • How does RLT compare to EMDR for trauma work?

RLT and EMDR both address trauma but in distinct ways. EMDR is a trauma-processing modality designed to reprocess specific disturbing memories, typically in individual therapy. RLT, on the other hand, is a trauma-integrated, relational model that focuses on how trauma adaptations show up in relationships, especially in the couple dynamic.

If you're an EMDR-trained therapist who wants to work deeply with trauma in the couple room - especially using partner-present inner-child work and relational repair - choose the RLT Therapist Track.

If your focus is on using EMDR individually and you want to add RLT’s relational tools (like truth-telling, boundaries, and leverage) to your couples work, the RLT Coach Track may be sufficient.
