What is RLT Level 1 and what does it cover?

Level 1 is the foundations training in Relational Life Therapy. It gives you an in-depth introduction to the RLT model — including the 3 phases of work, the "adaptive child" vs "wise adult," leverage, relational mindfulness, and seeing Terry work with real clients. It's also the first step toward RLT Certification and prepares you for Levels 2 and 3 if you decide to continue.

How does the live cohort work?

Each week, Terry's teaching is streamed live — so you can watch together and ask questions in the chat as you go. This is followed immediately by a live Q&A and integration session with RLT faculty member Bonny Slim, LMFT. Sessions run 12–2pm ET.

When are the July 2026 sessions?

The cohort runs for five weeks: 9 July, 16 July, 23 July, 30 July, and 6 August 2026. All sessions are 12–2pm ET.

What if I can't attend a session live?

We strongly encourage live attendance where possible — the interactive discussions, demonstrations, and opportunities to ask questions are an invaluable part of the learning experience. All sessions are recorded and added to your private learning platform, so you won't miss the content.

Are there CE credits available?

Yes — 10 CE credit hours are available:

• NBCC: 10 credit hours, Beginner level (ACEP No. 7495)
• ICF: 10 CCE hours (7 Core Competency + 3 Resource Development)

Attendance is tracked throughout the course. To qualify, you must attend all five live sessions in full. If you have questions about your specific situation, please email support@terryreal.com.

It is your responsibility to confirm eligibility with your specific board or credentialling body.

Are the CE credits recognised outside the US?

The CEs are issued by a US provider and are not automatically accredited by UK or other non-US bodies. Many clinicians outside the US are able to self-submit the hours as CPD to their professional organisation, but this depends on that organisation's policies. We recommend checking with your own regulator, letting them know it's a US continuing education training with documented hours and a certificate of completion.

What's the difference between the live cohort and the homestudy version?

• Live cohort — Terry's teaching is streamed live each week, followed by a live Q&A with Bonny Slim, LMFT. You're part of a group with real-time interaction.
• Homestudy — the same core teaching content worked through at your own pace, on demand.

I already bought the homestudy — do I need to pay again?

If you purchased the homestudy anytime after the last run in January 2026, you'll automatically receive an invitation to join this live cohort at no additional cost. Keep an eye on your inbox. If you haven't heard from us closer to the start date, email support@terryreal.com.

Is Level 1 enough to start working with couples?

Level 1 gives you a strong foundation in the RLT framework and many practitioners do begin integrating RLT ideas into their couples work after this training. That said, it is not a standalone qualification in couples therapy. Most people deepen their skills through Level 2, consultation, supervision, and experience over time. You'll also need to stay within your professional scope and local regulations.

Why does Level 1 focus so much on data-gathering?

The course is designed as an introduction, and many participants — including highly experienced therapists and coaches — find real value in covering this in depth. It underpins everything else in the RLT model.

Is Level 1 part of the RLT Certification pathway?

Yes. Level 1 is the first step toward RLT Certification — our deepest, most comprehensive couples therapy training. If you're enrolled in the RLT Certification, Level 1 Live is already included; no additional purchase needed.

How long will I have access to the course materials?

You keep access to all Level 1 recordings and materials in your learning platform indefinitely. We have no plans to remove course content, but we do guarantee a minimum of one year's access from your purchase date.
