Information for International Certification Students
1. Is an RLT Certification recognized outside of the United States?
Governing bodies don’t “recognize” any of these certification programs (RLT, Gottman, IFS, SEP). Successful completion of these programs is meant to develop an expected level of competency in the modality itself and should not be seen as an endorsement of broad competency in therapy or other mental healthcare at large.
RLT Certification should be viewed as a training to enhance a foundational (and pre-existing) level of skill in counseling or coaching. Certification is a way for potential clients and others in the field to “recognize” that you’ve taken steps beyond your primary training to develop a specialty in a particular treatment approach.
If you do not have any prior credentials and are hoping that this training is sufficient, this is not the training for you. RLT Certification is meant as continuing education for people already “credentialed” in some way in the country or region where they practice.
